An outgrowth of the success of Leadership Sumner is the development of the youth program. Sumner County high school juniors that are potential community and business leaders are selected in a process similar to the adult program.

Participants in the youth program are identified by their high school’s faculty and administration and are encouraged to apply early in the new academic year. The students travel the county in a Sumner County School bus and visit many business, civic and historic sites, asking questions, sharing insights and discussing what they are observing. This mini-tour is a first-hand experience for these students and serves as an impetus for their continuing commitment to community service.

Thanks to support of the Leadership Sumner Alumni Association and community sponsors, the participation costs for all selected students are fully covered by scholarships.

Thanks to the Director of Sumner County Schools, Dr. Del Phillips, Leadership Sumner Youth participants are excused from classes on program days during the academic year.
